Saturday Spotlight…Vol. VII (and 30th post)…

on October 27, 2012

This is a very special milestone for me…not only is it my 30th post but also the lucky number seventh edition of the Spotlight.  Now, this is going to be a two-fer…Not only will I be talking in length about one artist, but I have decided to give you all a “double shot” with a second artist for free.

The first artist that I’m going to talk about is a group that I got into very early in their careers…and the band that sits at Number Six on my Top Ten (August)…Testament.  This groups’ snarly-sounding lead singer, Chuck Billy, is what sets this band so high on my list.  Their melodies and tones are just stellar, musically, and I really have enjoyed all of their music.

From their first album, The Legacy (1987), to their most current album, Dark Roots of Earth (2012), a total of ten albums, they have made exponential leaps in their marks on the rock-n-roll community.  A lot of their songs deal with a range of emotions, such as anger against the government (big surprise LOL!), retribution of past sins, and other delightful topics.

On the other side of the spectrum, the other group that I will spotlight on today is a group that gets very little kudos for an attempt at something that had never been done before…Stryper.  Yes, the religion-toting rockers get the second spot because, although I do believe in God, I certainly do not believe in the Bible (preparing flame-retardants and armor for torches & pitchforks).  Stryper has certainly, in my humble opinion, upheld their own traditions by providing a very well done musical catalogue.

I will end this column by letting everyone understand that Stryper does not get a lot of credit for an original subject matter in rock-n-roll.

Which is why our genre will never truly die…it just continues to evolve!  /,,,/ ROCK ON DUDEZ /,,,/

WOOT! Post numero XXX (30)! Congrats Daddy. Rock-n-Roll will never die! It has no “Time of Dying”! Speaking of which, I haven’t heard that song in a while. Stay frosty Daddy! Peace! ,,\/
